Victoria Falls, Zambia
“We are gay couple Stefan and Sebastien and we set up our travel blog, Nomadic Boys to chronicle our adventures around the world. We are always on the look out for ideal place to promote as a gay honeymoon destination. One particular place that stood out was the train rides in Sri Lanka from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya through to Ella Rock. Once at Ella village you have a short 30 minutes trek to the peak where you have an incredible romantic view of the surrounding area. This is an ideal honeymoon destination for those who like a bit of adventure.” -Stefan and Sebastien, Nomadic Boys
“If you plan to go to Bali for your honeymoon, I can recommend to check out Chapung Sebali Resort & Spa that lies close to the city of Ubud in central Bali. While the place might be well-known from the movie Eat Pray Love, it really is heaven on earth. In this resort you have your own private villa in the midst of palms and rice paddies. And yes, of course there is also an infinity pool with this jungle view. Simply breathtaking!” -Clemens, Anekdotique
“If you are thinking, ‘Honeymoon’, then Switzerland has to be an automatic choice given its dreamlike natural beauty and hypnotic charm. Within Switzerland itself you are spoilt for choices as every few miles you come across a small village or town that seems straight out from the realms of imagination. We spent a week in a small little place called Uster which is about 21 Kms. from the city of Zurich and is a peaceful and quaint little place. It has a couple of beautiful and serene lakes and a small hill on which is situated an old castle, we spent some surreal moments here watching the sunset in the evening. The amazing Swiss trains made it possible for us to squeeze in Zurich, Zermatt and Lucerne as well as Jungfraujoch, the Top of Europe and Gornergrat. When it was time to bid farewell to Switzerland, we felt like we had been swept away by a beautiful dream and did not want to wake up to reality; we left the dream behind with memories for a lifetime.” -Sandy, ImVoyager
“When most people head to the beach for their honeymoon we chose to make a dream come true and do something original and fly over to Japan! Instead of lazing away our honeymoon we explored the crazy, contrasting and serene corners of the huge metropolis of Tokyo. From wafting the sweet serpent like incense smoke over our shoulders at a serene temple to the flashing lights, beeps, buzzing and electricity of Shibuya crossing unforgettable experiences are around every corner. Tokyo offers the yin and yang of hectic modern life and well-mannered ancient rituals, it is the perfect alternative choice for a unique and personal honeymoon!” -Nic and Paul, The Roaming Renegades
“White beaches, gorgeous sunsets, and endless rum make up the perfect honeymoon! Jamaica was more than we could have dreamt of to spend our first days together as husband and wife. There are plenty of activities to do on the island, including waterfalls, cliff jumping, water sports or boat tours. On the flip side, you can also simply lay by the clear, blue water drinking a “Bob Marley”. To us, there was nothing better than sitting on the beach in Jamaica, with a drink in our hands, celebrating US!” -Tarah and Tip, Fit Two Travel
“For our honeymoon in May 2010, my husband and I headed to the Caribbean for some relaxation. We spent time on St. Maarten/ St. Martin, which I think is an amazing choice for honeymooners! The island has plenty of restaurants and attractions, but it’s still very laid back. If you’re looking for a gorgeous white sand beach and crystal clear water, look no further than St. Maarten/ St. Martin, as it has some beautiful beaches. For couples who are looking for an adventurous aspect to their trip, I’d highly recommend a zipline tour throughout the forest at Loterie Farms (on the French side). That was one of the highlights of our entire honeymoon!” –Natalie, Cosmo Mariners: Destination Unknown
Komodo Island, Indonesia
“First things first, I am not married. I do have a partner and he happens to be responsible for half of A World to Travel but we are not looking at marriage anytime soon. That said, throughout the 8 years that we have been together – with the highs and lows and all that – and specially since we started taking travel blogging seriously, we have been to MANY places that could fall in the ‘dream honeymoon destinations’ category. Our most recent one and already an all-time favorite has to be KOMODO Island, in Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Just back from there, we will let you judge yourself. For us, it is a heaven on earth, a chilled paradise destination for nature lovers filled with all the ingredients newly weds will appreciate. Anyway, just check our latest post on why you need to visit Komodo National Park, that comes with a big surprise in form of a contest that can take you there for free next month. Good luck!” -Inma, A World To Travel
Topsail Island, NC, USA
“I think my honeymoon destination is a little unique because it is here in the United States. I also got married on the beach there. The location I am talking about is Topsail Island North Carolina. My husband’s family has been vacationing here for about 40 years and there is so much to do! For us the part we love the most is there are a lot of outdoor activities. You can go kayaking on the sound, fishing on the pier or deep sea fishing out in the ocean, there is the Sea Turtle hospital, and obviously the beach! What makes this place so different is the island is not commercialized. I think the only “fast food” place on the island is a Hardee’s. It is great for families, singles, or group vacations. One of the most magical things that I have gotten to experience is seeing baby sea turtles hatching from their nest at our beach house! If you go during certain times of the year you can either see mama’s coming up on shore to lay their eggs or see babies hatch and scurry to the ocean. Other than outdoor and nature related things there are also some great restaurants and shops on the island. The Topsail Island Trading Company makes the best homemade fudge in so many varieties.” -Heather, Love Create Wander
St. John, USVI
“For our honeymoon, my wife and I went to St. John, the smallest of the three U.S. Virgin Islands. Since 2/3 of St. John is a National Park, we enjoyed hikes and nature when not at our private house rental. St. John can only be reached by the sea. That is part of the charm. Most visitors take a ferry from St. Thomas. Almost every list of best Caribbean beaches includes at least one St. John entry, usually Trunk Bay with its world-famous snorkel trail.” -Charles, McCool Travel
While Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan may not pop into most people’s minds as a honeymoon destination, the story makes slightly more sense when you consider my husband and I got married in a small town just outside of Moscow, Russia at the end of December and were desperate to go anywhere for our honeymoon/New Year. After trawling the web, Bishkek appeared as the cheapest exotic destination and therefore the unlikely winner. Despite pretty much everyone thinking we were crazy, we set off to below-zero Bishkek on January 1st. We were there for three days and loved every second of it. We wandered the heavily-Communist central square and hit up the central market, quiet after the new year. We took a taxi and hiked into the mountains and bathed in a hot spring as it snowed. We bought cheap beer and wandered the frigid streets for hours on end.
So… Bishkek for a honeymoon destination? Unconventional but absolutely perfect. (And no, we actually did not manage to get ONE picture together the whole time. Oops.)” -Polly, Let’s Love Local
“A city that is called the Venice of the east; Udaipur is famous for its lakes, palaces, forts and romantic viewpoints. This dreamy destination has been the backdrop of many famous movies such as Octopussy, a James Bond film. During our stay here, we got a room with views of the famous Lake Pichola on three sides. The breathtaking beauty of this lake was the last thing we saw before sleeping and the first thing upon waking up. This city of lakes also has many rooftop restaurants that offer spectacular views.” -Sonal, Drifter Planet
“Whether you are practical honeymooners or not, Boracay Island can guarantee to spice up your honeymoon without going over budget. With its many affordable beach front accommodations plus the Island’s fine white sand beach and its tropical warm crystal clear water, Boracay sure is the best honeymoon spot. Boracay may be known for its party atmosphere but contrary to that is a secluded quiet beach known as Ilig Iligan Beach. There’s tons of activities to do here and surprisingly more if you rent a motorbike and get lost in this little island. At the main resort “White Beach”- there’s tons of typical resort amenities that you may enjoy such as spas, couple’s massage by the beach and more. In the afternoon you can also enjoy a romantic sunset cruise followed by a romantic dinner by the beach.” -Baby, Baby The Explorer
Round The World Trip
“Shortly after our wedding 8 years ago we jetted off to not one but seven destinations on a five month round the world trip.We met pandas in Hong Kong, sipped Singapore Slings in Singapore, visited temples in Malaysia, filled up on Pad Thai in Thailand, travelled along the East Coast of Australia, climbed mountains in New Zealand, island hopped in Fiji and relaxed on the beaches of the Cook Islands. We made so many wonderful memories and this trip was what really fueled our wanderlust. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend our honeymoon; it was the perfect way to start our married life together.” -Ayla, Mrs Ayla’s Adventures
